چکیده

Aggregates containing both phycoerythrin and from hot springs (pH 8 .2-8 .4) in the lower Geyser phycocyanin were first described in the red alga Basin area of the Yellowstone National Park . The Porphyridium cruentum and named phycobilisomes temperature of the water at these sites was in the (7, 8) . This and subsequent investigations of range 65°-70°C . The selected unicells were usually phycobilisomes in blue-green and red algae were found in shallow, fast-running water, on the sides or

The characterization of C-phycocyanin from an extremely halo-tolerant blue-green alga, Coccochloris elabens.

C-Phycocyanin was isolated and purified from a uni-algal culture of an extremely halo-tolerant blue-green alga, Coccochloris elabens. This alga can be grown under laboratory conditions in 25% (w/v) NaCl. Purified halophile phycocyanin was characterized by amino acid analysis and the measurement of sedimentation velocity, fluorescence polarization and immunodiffusion as a function of protein con...

Ultrastructure of blue-green algae.

Two freshwater blue-green algae, Tolypothrix tenuis and Fremyella diplosiphon, and an oscillatorialike marine alga, were found to possess structures on the photosynthetic lamellae which appear to correspond to the phycobilisomes of red algae. These homologous structures are important because they contain the phycobilins which are accessory pigments involved in photosynthesis. As in the red alga...

Thermoluminescence and Oxygen Evolution from a Thermophilic Blue-green Alga Obtained after Single-turnover Light Flashes*

Oxygen evolution and thermoluminescence (TL) studies on a thermophilic blue-green alga Synechococcus vulcanus Copeland revealed the following: (a) The deactivations of the S3 and Sz states of the Oxygen Evolving Complex, at room temperature, have half-times of -200 and 75 s, respectively, instead of 30 and 20 s found in mesophilic plants. (b) The TL band(s) “B”, due to the recombination of the ...

Comparison of the biliproteins from two strains of the thermophilic cyanophyte Synechococcus lividus.

C-Phycocyanins from two thermophilic strains of Synechococcus lividus that grow within different temperature ranges have been shown to be unalike. The aggregation ability of these two C-phycocyanins in sedimentation-velocity experiments varied dramatically. Surprisingly, the aggregation properties of mesophilic C-phycocyanins were found to lie between those of the two thermophilic proteins. Und...

Adaptation to Blue Light in Marine Synechococcus Requires MpeU, an Enzyme with Similarity to Phycoerythrobilin Lyase Isomerases

Marine Synechococcus has successfully adapted to environments with different light colors, which likely contributes to this genus being the second most abundant group of microorganisms worldwide. Populations of Synechococcus that grow in deep, blue ocean waters contain large amounts of the blue-light absorbing chromophore phycourobilin (PUB) in their light harvesting complexes (phycobilisomes)....
